You can mix and match flavors in generous portions, often more than you bargained for, even in a child size!
While the servings are abundant, with many customers noting that even a child's size will leave you pleasantly full, it’s easy to see why some might suggest sharing if you're not ready for a scoop towered high with ice cream. A noteworthy con is the cash-only policy, but fear not—there's an ATM conveniently located on-site.
The service at Nelson's has received mixed reviews; however, the friendly staff often make up for any minor hiccups with their speedy assistance. Expect your waits to be short, as this beloved spot has a reputation for quick service, especially during less busy hours.
For those who enjoy sipping on something sweet, Nelson's Ice Cream excels with its inviting ambiance and flavors that refrain from being overly sweet, making their ice cream a true treat to savor. With a promise of great value for your money and a vibrant community feel, it's no wonder Nelson's is a favorite ice cream stop.

“ One of the best ice cream shops youll hit here in Minnesota. The best part? The variety of flavors is insane. There are more flavors on the other side by the cash register by the way and they have a few vegan options too. I tried the Brownie Smores flavor and loved it. You can also choose two options for the cup options. The worst part? Okay, this might not be a bad thing but the amount of ice cream they give you is nuts. I went in planning to get the small size... no need. The childs size was way plenty because they pile on the ice cream high. The only reason why I didnt like this was because it dripped on the sides and was kinda hard to put my spoon into so I ended up just taking bites but hey, for the price the amount was generous! ”
“ Really big portions of ice cream! I was surprised by how huge the single scoop wasdefinitely more than I expected. My friend even brought containers for his. Ill do the same next time. This is my favorite ice cream spot now because its not overly sweet like most American ice creams. My friend mentioned its homemade, which is a big plus! I went in the afternoon and didnt have to wait long, but my friend said it usually gets pretty busy since its a popular place for cheap, delicious ice cream. The service was just okaynot great but not bad. The only downside is they only accept cash. ”
“ There is something about this cute shop surrounded by locals and in the summers with their families. Personally, I cant eat a child size my boyfriend and I split but it is a quintessential experience and they have 2 vegan flavors. ”
“ This business is cash only, but ATM is present inside the line. This was my first time visit. Not a huge ice cream lover, but the choices of ice cream they serve is fun. Lots of options that you can split inside your cone or cup. The young workers were very friendly and gave quick service. Wait time for help wasnt long at all. Plenty of room outside to relax and enjoy your treat. Booths, umbrella tables with chairs and post up spots to stand around the shop. The inside is cute with tables and chairs also. Pretty clean inside this shop. You definitely get your money worth of icecream! Dont hesitate to get a kids scoop. The photo in this review is cinnamon double scoop. The bottom layer thats not visible is banana. I will be back to get a kids scoop cinnamon cup. ”
“ Skip Dairy Queen. This place is amazing! They have generous portions, a helpful staff, and excellent prices! I ordered a child size waffle cone and it was the largest ice cream order in my entire life. Bring Cash!! Cash only establishment, there is an ATM within the building. ”
“ Genuinely my new favorite ice cream place! FYI They are cashonly, and the servings are HUGE. I finished my Kids Size, and was absolutely stuffed afterwards. I cant even imagine what the larger sizes are like! The ice cream was delicious and definitely had that old timey taste to it. Such a cute place, and Ill definitely be back! ”
“ Over the years this place hasnt disappointed me. The ice cream is delicious and not over price, home made and very big servings. Just a suggestion, order the kids sizes, It is enough for two or three people. They have a wide variety of flavors. Friendly staff and very cheap prices. For the kids size 5.50 dls. Before I forget BRING CASH!!! They dont accept credit cards. ”
“ YES! Found this lovely shop while searching for non dairy ice cream THEY HAVE SOME! Theres a small lot for parking on the side, it is on a pretty busy street. They ONLY ACCEPT CASH but also have an ATM inside. The interior was clean and had the flavors on the walls. Plenty of seating both outside and inside. My sisters and I all got kid sized, KID SIZED! I was surprised they kept adding to our cup. I only paid 20ish for two cups and one conea pup cup. If youre looking to have some ice cream..PICK THIS PLACE! ”
